Our first computer

My family got our very own first computer when I was in 16 yrs old. It was an excitement for me at that time since I don’t know anything bout that thing. And fortunately the golden age of IT was at its peak at that time. So I guess that my dad would not want to left behind in the race towards cybertronia. It was a generic model bought from this shop somewhere in bintulu. At that time it cost about RM3000….what do we get from that ?

Intel Celeron 300A MHz processor, 4.5 Gb HDD, 24X CD-Rom, 15” monitor, A floppy disk drive….it was good enough at that time for me. I did have some experience in some office suite such as wordstar. Anybody ever heard of wordstar?...very pity for me…it was before the time of Microsoft office came to the picture. And everything had to be keyed in…because it was develop on dbase. And I don’t remember using any mouse during the class.

well, I would still remember when the computer arrived at our house and I was amazed seeing the technician plugging wires and cables out of the box and seeing the CPU with lots of socket at the back. And I was thinking that time that if I would be installing those cable myself, I would not know where to plugged it (stupid la that time)

When everything was set up, the technician start it up…an after several minutes, there it is windows 98…hahahaha…that thing also I’m amazed at…I was so eager at that computer, but I just kept it silence and act like I’ve been born to handle it…hahahahah…so the technician taught me several items to make sure the computer is in tip top condition…well, who cares. At that moment, it was the most advance thing in the house (you could imagine how are things in my house would be)

So in the first week, there are lots of troubles using that thing, and of course when it comes to me (at that time). It would be disaster…the most unforgettable thing I do is when I accidentally changed the keyboard language to some other language. (as I told earlier, it was the first windows for me, which really have so much windows which I can’t remember them at all. just keep opening and clicking) That resulted in screwing up the alphabet order. I don’t really know how to say it…here’s some example ; when I type “hello, my name is s*****I” , that problem would caused this to appear at your screen “fnivs, s3 oef8 =\ pae231x”….

I thought I have broke up the computer, and I tried to solve it myself, but instead I make it worse. So I just keep it there and shut it off. Hehehehehe….when my dad treid to use it at night, he was surprise to see what went wrong…and I told him that it might be some virus….(of course it is the virus, called me..huhuhuhu…sorry dad)…so he called the technician, and he came the next day…fixed the thing again…fuh..selamat..

Hihihi…that computer really taught me lots of thing…really help me…and till today, it is still running…only the keyboard la…the rest of it, I’ve upgrade already…
