recently my atm card shows somekind of faulty, i can't used it to withdraw cash from any mangkuk (bukan nama sebenar) outlets. it work like theres no fault when i use the MEPS services.
since i could still withdrawn it from anywhere else, i don't feel any obligation to change it. But i decided to change it anyway, before it worsen.
got to nearest mangkuk in ampang park. pick a number and que, waiting to be served. at last, 1/2 hour later....
me : kad saya ni nak ckp rosak tatau gak..kat mangkuk je taleh kuar duit (there's something wrong with my card, i can't withdraw any cash from mangkuk only)
her : kat mangkuk je yek. tunggu sebentar encik (only in mangkuk?, wait a moment sir)
i handed her my atm card, while her other hands grabbing an eraser. Using the eraser, she rubs the chip whilst talking to me.
her : mangkuk nyer kad ni, kalo guna atm mangkuk, dia read chip ni. tp kalo bank lain, guna magnetic stripe kat blakang ni. nah try balik (our system normally reads data from this chip, but when you use it elsewhere, it'll be reading the magnetic stripe at the back. here you go,try it again)
and i go to the nearest mangkuk atm. walla......i withdraw rm100. ek..can be use la..
and obviously the chip must've been very dirty. just clean it. i waited for 1/2 hour just to get somebody to clean my atm card. such a waste...yet, she saves me from getting a new card which cost me rm12.
lesson learnt;
- keep you card clean (esp those with chip)
- when you withdraw, use the receipt to cover your card so it won't get dirty or rusted
